DLish California Bistro (Chula Vista Terra Nova Plaza)
|
By Jeanne Bellezzo
It only takes a bite or two of a DLish woodfired
pizza to realize that this restaurant truly lives up to its name.
Specializing in pizza, pasta and salad, this family-friendly,
bistro-style restaurant offers plenty of fresh, tasty options, and
portions generous enough to share
The bruschetta appetizer is a house favorite, with
homemade old-world garlic bread grilled topped with tomato, garlic
and parmesan.
The shrimp scampi delivers nearly a dozen tender, good-sized
shrimp delicately sautéed in a light, slightly spicy broth.
Rather than just drowning it in garlic and butter, DLish flavors
it scampi with spices and Sauterne wine, and the result is delicious.
Garlic mushrooms, calamari, mozzarella sticks and
buffalo wings round out the appetizer menu.Salads, offered in full
and half orders, are meals in themselves.
|

Fresh is the key word here the greens, vegetables
and toppings are crisp and colorful, and all of the dressings are
made fresh daily.
Go international with the Greek, Thai, Chinese or Chipotle
chicken salads, or the excellent Mediterranean, packed with artichoke
hearts, roma tomatoes, kalamata olives and feta cheese crowned with
slices of tender, juicy chicken.
All salads come with freshly baked breadsticks. Even
the half-size salads are large enough for a meal, or perfect for
two to share while waiting for another entrée. Family-size
salads can be ordered for takeout only.
DLish offers more than a dozen California-style
woodfired pizzas, available in regular (10) and the carryout-only
XL (16). Pizzas are fresh, preservative-free and well-seasoned
with a light, crispy crust. Theres a combo to suit every taste.

The Fire Roasted Vegetable, topped with fresh eggplant,
zucchini, squash, bell pepper, red, onions, broccoli and sun-dried
tomatoes, provides your five-a-day and then some. Those who like
their pizzas with meat have plenty of choices, including pepperoni,
Greek, BBQ or Thai chicken, a seafood mix and the Meatzilla, a meat-fest
of pepperoni, Italian and Cajun sausages, Canadian bacon and meatballs
topped with red onions, mushrooms, garlic and cheese.
For pizza purists, theres the traditional cheese-and-tomato
Margherita, or The Works, with sausage, pepperoni and the usual
pizza vegetables. Cant decide? Try the Four Seasons, divided
into quarters: wild mushrooms; smoky Canadian bacon with fontina;
tomato with mozzarella; and shrimp in garlic butter with mozzarella.
Many of the pizzas also are available as calzones.
DLishs homemade pastas are a dlight, with a fusion
of innovative flavors and preservative-free sauces made fresh daily.
There are more than 20 pasta dishes to choose from, from classic
spaghetti and meatballs to salmon asparagus fettuccine, wild mushroom
linguine and fire-roasted veggie pasta with pesto.

House favorites include the Chicken
Fantasia Fettuccine, chicken breast sautéed with garlic,
sun-dried tomatoes and spinach in a light marinara cream sauce
topped with kalamata olives and feta cheese, and the Tequila
Chicken Fettuccine, which blends spinach fettuccine with sautéed
chicken breast, bell peppers and red onions in a light tequila-jalapeño
sauce. Dive into the Seafood Cioppino, another popular choice
with shrimp, scallops, calamari, salmon, mussels and clams
in a seafood broth over angel hair pasta. Catering-size pastas
serve up to seven and are available for takeout.
Creative sandwich selections offer many of pizzas and pasta
options served on foccacia bread or a grilled pizza wrap,
as well as charbroiled ½ pound Black Angus burgers.
Sandwiches come with bistro fries
Our only complaint about DLish is that
there are too many appealing choices. Our recommendation:
Order a salad, pizza and pasta dish, try some of each, and
save the leftovers for later. Prices are reasonable, with
most salads and regular-size pizzas under $10 and pastas $10-15.
Lunch specials, served daily until 4 p.m., are under $8 and
include select pizzas and pastas.
DLish is open from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Reservations
are not necessary. Plenty of parking is available in the Terra
Nova Plaza parking lot. Take-out is available. Visa and MasterCard
accepted.
